Project Overview
FGE project developed a strong activist network among youth in slum areas, encouraging collaboration between communities, local authorities, and institutions.
The integration of environmental education, leadership development, and community engagement ensured that the positive impacts would extend beyond the project’s completion.
Resilience & Adaptability
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which resulted in the government introducing nationwide closures of schools, offices, and public gatherings to reduce transmission Bangladesh, the FGE Project also carried out awareness campaigns led by Earth Club members as well as developed contents for students in grades 6, 7, and 8, focusing on environmental education.
Objectives
Establish Earth Clubs in secondary schools near slum areas and directly within slums.
Build Earth Club members’ capacity through action learning and mentorship.
Connect youth across different social and economic backgrounds to collaborate on solutions.
Strengthen youth understanding of environmental health, leadership, and participatory governance.
Improve urban environmental health conditions.
Foster strong collaboration between youth and decision-makers.

Targeted Slum Interventions
Young activists gained in-depth knowledge of vulnerabilities and environmental challenges in slums, enabling them to design targeted community initiatives.
Tangible Improvements
Youth-led community initiatives resulted in tangible improvements in environmental and living conditions within targeted areas.
Empowered Civil Society
Youth-led civil society in and around slums was strengthened, with young leaders effectively engaging local authorities and stakeholders.
Institutional Sustainability
BYEI’s technical and organizational capacity was enhanced, enabling it to independently establish and support Earth Clubs beyond the scope of this project.
