BYEI has recruited several Research Associates, university students from diverse education backgrounds, who will be conducting first and second-hand research on a range of relevant issues.
The Research Associates will be supported by a team of professional young researchers, who will provide guidance, advice and training. Research Associates will also work with our Research Partners, professional organizations that provide access to data, information and support. Meet our Research Team for 2012-2013.
Research Support Team
- Syed Muntasir Ridwan
Ridwan is one of the founding members of BYEI Research Initiative and the General Secretary of BYEI. Ridwan is an enterprising business graduate from North South University, having strong background in quantitative research. The undergraduate Research paper of Ridwan on “Study of Stock Indices Predictability using Monte Carlo Simulation”: A Cross-Market Analysis of Market Efficiency has won the “Dean’s Award” for best paper of North South University. He initially pursued a professional career as a Research Analyst in a large investment firm of Bangladesh and then switched his career to the development research side. He keeps keen research interest in pro-poor financing, clean energy technology financing, and development of youth engagement in climate change mitigation. Ridwan has published research papers in renowned journals such as the World Social Business Journal, 2013 International Conference at UC Berkeley, Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Economic Review among others. Currently, he is carrying out a study on “Assessment of Impact and Willingness to Pay for the Solar Home System’s in the Rural Areas of Bangladesh” and has an upcoming plan of studying the comparative Cost Benefit Analysis of the Different Renewable Energy Technologies of Bangladesh.

- Amy MacMahon
Senior Research Associate
Amy is an Australian volunteer, currently working as a Research and Communications Officer with CARE Bangladesh and previously worked as a Research Officer with Office of Clean Energy, Queensland Government, Brisbane, Australia. She has a background in social science, development studies, and peace and conflict studies. She has conducted research for both the public and private sectors, on topics including renewable energy policy, urban agriculture and resilience to climate change, globalization in farming, and women’s empowerment. Her work with the BYEI involves providing oversight to the BYEI Research Wing, and providing advice and guidance to the Research Associates.
Amy shares, “I feel strongly about the capacity for research to be a powerful tool for advocacy and awareness raising, particularly for youth. Working with BYEI, I have the opportunity to share my skills with other young people, and to delve deeper into a wide variety of important environmental topics”.
- Rezwan Siddiqui
Rezwan Siddiqui is doing his Master’s degree in Disaster Management from the faculty of Earth and Environmental Science, University of Dhaka. Prior to that, he completed his Bachelor degree from the same University in Geography and Environment.
Last year he worked as a Research Assistant at Centre for Urban Studies (CUS). Before that, he did several research works with Disaster Research Training and Management Center (DRTMC) and Asiatic Society.
Rezwan has research interest in disaster management, climate change and climate change migration.
- Rabbani Rash-ha Wahi
Rabbani Rash-ha Wahi is a graduate student of Department of Civil And Environmental Engineering (CEE) at Islamic University of Technology (IUT).He did his Secondary from Blue Bird High School, sylhet and Higher Secondary from M.C. College, Sylhet. He was formerly involved in cultural Club in School and did some programs on drama. He interned at the Public works department under ministry of housing public works and Housing & Building Research Institute.
He is very enthusiastic about doing research. His research interests are Transportation Engineering, Road safety; Environmental Pollution Control, Climate Change, Environmental Impact Assessment & Management. He has published several research papers in conferences held at KUET, CUET, SUST,and DUET. Currently he has published a research papers in the proceedings of the Global Engineering, Science and Technology Conference.
- Sajid Iqbal
Sajid Iqbal is doing B.Sc. on Environmental Management at North South University. Prior to joining to the BYEI, he worked with Dr Shaikh Tanveer Hossain from Friends in Village Development Bangladesh. Sajid’s feature article based on the research paper: ‘Traffic Noise Polluting Dhaka City’ was published in Daily Sun Newspaper.
Sajid was awarded with Emerging Academic Program scholarship to attend the 6th World Water Forum as full engaged member of expert panel which was held in Marseille, France. Sajid has also been awarded 2nd position in Social Business Idea Competition in the South Asian Youth Leaders’ Summit 2012.
He has also participated in various international and national conferences, seminars, workshops and training related with environment. His research interest includes urban problems and management, bio-diversity conservation, eco-system, social business, climate change impacts and community development.
- Tanay Kumar Roy
Tanay Kumar Roy completed his SSC and HSC from Ideal School & College and Dhaka City College respectively. He is currently studying BBA in Institute of Business Administration, University of Dhaka. He has conducted research on pearl culture in Bangladesh and a social study on modern entertainment and its relationship with the religious practices of the youth. Moreover, he has interest in capital market and completed a short course on technical analysis. At present, he is conducting a feasibility study on biodegradable packaging materials in Bangladesh.
Besides study, Tanay worked with BYEI in different capacity including organizing committee member of the South Asian Youth Environment Meet 2011. He also volunteered with Bangladesh Youth Leadership Center (BYLC).
- Sunera Saba Khan
Sunera Saba Khan is a third year student in the Department of Economics, University of Dhaka. She completed her A-levels from Master Mind School and O-levels from South Breeze School, Dhaka. She was the recipient of the best paper award at the 8th South Asian Economics Students Meet, 2011. She has won the social business idea competition at the South Asian Youth Leaders’ Summit 2012.
Currently she works as a part-time invigilator for the British Council, Dhaka. She participated in U.S. State Department’s Study of the U.S. Student Leaders Program in the Gaylord College under the University of Oklahoma. Her research interests include development and environmental issues and International Trade.
- Jibril Ahammad
Jibril Ahammad is currently enrolled as an undergraduate student of Department of Physics at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology. As the Chapter coordinator of BYEI at his University, he has organized number of events on youth leadership development to tackle the environmental challenges and capacity building among the youth in Sylhet. His fields of interest comprise renewable energy; green technology with different environmental pollutions in which he has a conference publication at International Conference on Environmental Aspects of Bangladesh held in Kitakyushu University, Japan in 2011 and some of his thesis works on energy is to be published at some national and international programs.
At present he is performing several research activities on solar energy and bio-energy to facilitate and ensure their maximum applications at various sectors of Bangladesh.
